How I use my planner

Figuring out how to plan my time has taken a lot of trial and error.

As someone who’s worked from home as a freelancer for 5+ years, I’ve had plenty of time to figure out what works for me and what doesn’t. After spending most of my life in school and then working jobs where I always had a boss to tell me where to be, when to be there, and what to do, moving into freelancing was a shock to my system. Suddenly, I had way more control over my own time .

Decisions like when to wake up, when to work, where to work, and what to work on each day were completely within my own control for the first time ever. When you’re not used to being in charge of all these choices, it can be really hard to figure out the difference between how you’re used to doing things and what actually works best for you.

This internal struggle is why I got into making my own planners. I realized I needed a planner that would do a lot more heavy lifting. It needed to keep my tasks on track while also functioning as a mini journal that would give me a better picture of how each day was going, not just whether I’d checked off all the t0-dos on my list. I knew I couldn’t get better at planning my time if I wasn’t really reflecting on how my current strategy was going.

With all that in mind, I started building a planner filled with multiple different types of pages to meet all these needs. After plenty of trial and error, it became a solid system that keeps me focused on my goals, helps me reflect on and enjoy each day, and leaves room for creativity.

Since I know I can’t be the only one who has struggled with planning my time effectively, I’m going to share my process with you all. Over the next few weeks, I’ll dive deep into how I use all my different planner pages in conjunction to plan everything out and make my days better.

If you’re in need of some better planning systems, stay tuned!
